One of the impressive locations along Conrail's ascent of the Alleghenies is MG Interlocking at MP243.4. Westbounds struggling up the mountain could be heard way down in the valley, their sound fading as the train rounded Horseshoe Curve, whistling faintly, then a few minutes later the roar of the power would rise as the train entered Whipoorwill straightline approaching MG. Two snappers are coupled ahead of the 6128 and 6803 as road power on symbol ALPI with 152 cars and another pair of helpers on the rear. Just one entry in the all-day procession of traffic across the mountain that numbered 28 trains in 7 hours, exclusive of helper movements.
