Remarks & Notes |
Aurizon continues to reactivate and utilize their c.1986-built 3500-class electrics for coal service. A distant cousin to Amtrak's AEM-7 design, the CF48 model was a joint venture of Clyde Engineering and Walkers Limited with ASEA supplying the electrical equipment. These were ordered to operate coal trains on the Blackwater and Goonyella railway lines that were in the process of being electrified at the time. On the evening of October 10, a pair of the 3500 class units - 3531 and 3551 - lead the standard 124-car empty train away from Hay Point, Queensland in a 2-2-1 DPU arrangement. Image is an in-camera dual exposure with several constellations visible - as well as the Pleiades cluster. The red glow is from the Hay Point port terminal. |
