A 6-car National Limited is westbound on Leap Year Day 1976, approaching the now-closed Eby-Chiques (or Chickies) Road crossing. The train had a scheduled stop in Lancaster at 3:27 p.m. and is due in Harrisburg at 4:01, where the G will come off and diesels will take over for the run to Pittsburgh, Columbus, Indianapolis, St. Louis, and Kansas City. This train was discontinued in 1979 during the Carter Administration cutbacks. No. 923 was built by Altoona/Westinghouse as the PRR 4929 in February, 1943.
An era of great change for the fledgling carrier with GG1s, Metroliners, E60s, AEM-7s, E8s, SDP-40s, F40PHs, P42DCs, the Broadway Limited, Capitol Limited, National Limited and more.
