These Geeps were only a couple of years old at this time. This would be train 199 if running westbound.

Greg: This is the 198 train. Santa Fe had a unique system of numbering their trains, with the last number being even or odd having nothing to do with direction. On this particular westbound, the first number is 1 and stands for Chicago, and the last number is 8 and stands for Los Angeles. The middle number on their trains stood for the priority, from 0 to 9, with 9 being the “hottest.” The 198 train is a hot Chicago to LA train. The 199 train is THE hottest train on the railroad and is a Chicago to Richmond (Bay area) speedster. Counterpart eastbounds to these trains are the 891 and 991, both odd numbers, but are eastbound trains!

Rule violation there - not supposed to dim headlights when approaching a grade crossing. Good thing I'm not a "weed weasel" and that this isn't 1992!
