Great angle and composition of a cool operation! Can you get access to the mine itself?

Beautiful photo...I love the context of this and composition of this image. Great job!

Sweet shot - love the perspective and location. A modern day switch back, pretty cool, yet looking at Google Maps, it seems (A) on a VERY short train can fit, and (B) the switchback lead at one time appears to rejoin the main negating its use?

Thanks for the comments guys.
Jim - No, the mines are off limits.
Mitch - The switchback 'pockets' can only fit an engine and 3-4 cars which is about all one locomotive can handle on these grades anyway. I dont think the switchback lead ever went straight through as there is a significant drop in elevation.

I've railfaned this short-line before and while I was waiting for them to shove backup the mine track, I walked the grade. The switchback may look small on google maps, but in reality its quite large. I think that's because most of us are used to rail-fanning narrow gauge switchbacks.

Awesome Pic!! The L&N lives on!! Farther north on this sub is the Hook & Eye portion of the line. Great place to take a train ride.

When in business, I bought a lot of material from this outfit.
They were good people to work with. Large orders were received at the New Haven's east end yard in Bridgeport.
