The Milwaukee Road had a similar mishap on their Western Extension on the bridge at Cle Elum, WA in their last days before abandoning their Western mainline. A hotbox caused a car to derail, piling them up on one of the 2 truss bridges. Their solution was to chop off the trusswork, leaving the bottom few feet. Then they built several supports under the remaining structure. It can still be seen today as the track bed is a trail now.

Ah yes, the good old Western Pacific! I really like western railroading, especially the fallen flags and Union Pacific giants.
