If these units were so good at hauling coal, then why does BNSF have huge deadlines of EMD SD70MACs, SD60Ms, and SD75Ms?

John: In two words—worn out. These SD70MACs, and the earlier SD60Ms spent almost all of their lives in the arduous duty of hauling huge amounts of coal tonnage, and they’re getting tired. Some of the earlier SD70MACs are over 25 years old! Also, newer units get better fuel mileage as well.

I have it from credible sources at the BN that Roberts Bank Deltaport in British Columbia, Canada is planning on increasing the amount of coal shipped out, and that SD70MACs are being reactivated to handle the task. Consists like this may happen again for a short amount of time before the Powder River Basin runs dry. Also, wonderful photo, Mike. SD70MACs are my personal favorite units.
