What could be worth the risk of derailing this locomotive on a track like this ?? Just curious, not being critical.

Not saying that it is good track - however, telephoto lens and cropping make the track look much worse than it probably is.

Looks a lot like the early days at T.T.I. in KY.
I'd say the track is really that bad and not a product of photography.
I remember running a light engine over a stretch of track that disappeared under mud and water when we ran over it.

CSX wants to cut costs and serve customers this way.... Does Maryland Metals have much of a future or receive many cars each week or month? The rail has some polish on it, which suggest that this is still a decent customer for CSX, but who knows what CSX thinks these days.

What is maximum operating MPH over track like this?

Probably 10 mph but they likely go less.
MD Metals is a regular customer- maybe 3-6 cars per week or so.
