I remember reading in a train or rail magazine that because of the power these engines exerted on the traction motors or axels that the mechanics in the train shops installed a piece of steel between the axels and you can clearly sea those pieces between the powerful pulling axels. They are horizontal just above the rail and they added extra strength to the durability of the locomotives trucks. Check out the other locomotive,it looks like a SD-45 even stronger with the same truck modification. Lot of pulling power here from the engines to the traction motors and then to the where the hits the rail. Railroaders lingo.
