Surprised NS did not get it for a parts source.
|
It looks like the Big Mac is already being an organ donor.
|
Most of the structure looks sound. It's weird that they'd leave it sitting so long. Lack of spare parts to fix it, maybe?
|
If a court case because of the accident is still pending, this could be why it's still here in this condition.

What the hell was that 18-wheeler hauling? Another locomotive?

Sold it to NS & rebuilt it.

If 'IT' nailed an 18-wheeler, it must have been going long-hood forward; otherwise an 18-wheeler must have nailed 'IT'.

Interesting photo Matthew - however, it couldn't be 4 years later after hitting an 18-wheeler as there is another photo of this very locomotive in service just two years ago in 2014 (RailPictures.net Photo ID: 511649) So - this must have happened just within the past 2 years - not 4 as you have listed. I would like to know why this is still sitting like this though and why it hasn't been scrapped or sold to NS as a "parts" unit with the rest of them?

No frame damage, definitely a full rebuild.

UP 8232 was the lead unit on the EDYLIM 19 when it struck a tractor trailer hauling a crane at a grade crossing on 19 February 2013. Damage to the rear-end was done by the trailer and crane.
|
That makes sense - thanks Joseph.

Jeff Swanson - again, couldn't have been in February, 2013 as I reference RailPictures.net Photo ID: 511649 that is posted on this site, showing this unit leading a train in 2014, totally intact and no damage. So this must have happened in late 2014 or 2015.

Dana M:
The photo you referenced shows UP C45AH 8232, which was delivered in September 2014. UP SD9043AC 8232 was retired 25-Apr-2013 after the grade crossing accident in Feb. 2013.
Two entirely different locomotives...

Front end pics of this loco show some substantial damage to it from the stand point of the end platform. That maybe where there is frame damage. looks wrenched up and twisted.
