Cristiano, I hear that the north-south railroad (where this grain is coming from?) is having problems. There was a story in a Brazil newspaper that a yard in either Maranhao or Tocantins states wasn't built properly or had some issues where farmers weren't able to unload grain there for rail transport. Surely they're working to fix this given the immense agricultural markets this railway will serve?

Hi Kurt. The section of 720 Km between Açailândia, MA and Palmas, TO is already complete and being operated by Vale (where the train up here in the picture was going). Well, there were some problems on the costruction of the railroad below Palmas to Anapolis, a 855 Km section that have more than 90% of the construction completed and have a scheduled for conclusion at december 2013. Most of these problems are already fixed and the ones that aren't fixed yet are with undergoing correction process. The section that goes from Anapolis, GO to Estrela D'Oeste, SP (where it links to ALL) is scheduled to be accomplished in december of 2014.

Thanks. How exciting for Brazil, given what the nation is becoming, to have its first true north-south railroad that doesn't have to rely on a patchwork of railroads around the coast. Seems like I also heard it may be able to accommodate double-stack containers. If so, what a treat for you and your railroading friends. Parabens!

Yeah Kurt, we all are expecting a true railroad corridor linking the two main economic regions of the country. The double stack service will be able from São Luís to Estrela D'Oeste that's for sure, from Estrela D'Oeste to Santos it's more difficult to happen. I believe with the time ALL will make the adaptations needed to make it happen ;-)
