Would want a whole lot more locomotive length between me and the rest of the world if I was an engineer.

I worked my last 6 months of my railroad career out of Richmond,VA running the worst locomotives I've ever operated in 36 years of engine service.Inside these things are small compared to other engines, and you are correct, you are right out there in front.I think this is the one involved in accident where it rear ended a stack train in Chicago.

Crikey! Kind of scary how the cab folded in on itself from the bottom up. Surely that's not an expected "crumple zone".

Is this unit ever going to be rebuilt? It's been out of service for almost 6 years.

Remember the Arnold Swartsnagger (sp) "terminator"-type movie wherein some guy got a swing at him, and the actor, holding his nose, said with a nasal blockage, "He broke my nose!"

Thanks for posting. A few friends of mine were injured in the accident involving this unit. I hadn't seen any updates since it left the NS yard on a flat car. Thanks for posting.
