Very nice photo John. I consider this one of the most elegant steam locomotive types ever built. I enjoyed the 14 that were in service in Taiwan when I was growing up there.

I love the C62 4-6-4 locomotives. However, I do think the C57 are nice. Great picture.

Very good picture. High quality color photos of steam (or any trains) in Japan are rare prior to 1967/68 or thereabouts, so this indeed is a gem. I believe this is an express train rather than a local, as the second and third coaches are first class, denoted by the green stripe, as well as being from the suha 43 series equipped with TR47 type bogies. Please post more photos of similar subject matter if you have them.

it is indeed the sasebo line at Haiki as you say. I have photos taken from the area near the signal in the background.
