Great photo, looks so strange to see an abandoned peice of track in such good shape

Interesting, it looks like the signals have been gutted. How long has it been out of service?

Nice capture Caroline...that sure is beautiful country...
I believe the last trains went through there in 1997.

Hard to look at that photo and not lament about seeing a train coming around the curve in perfect lighting. Well, at least the tracks are still there...maybe someday they'll feel the rumble once again. Thanks for sharing, Caroline.

Well let's get some money together buy up the line, a locomotive and a few old passenger cars and we can start a scenic railway!!!
|
Very sad to see a line out of order...
I wish that they don't scrap the track, but use it for museum's railroads.

Very nice shot! The last through train to traverse these tracks was the OMIGV - a taconite train - which departed Pueblo, CO on the evening of August 23, 1997. The line has not been abandoned by UP. Is it considered "inactive" and the rails aren't going to be taken up anytime soon. There are persistent rumors that the line will one day reopen, but for the time being, that doesn't seem to be in the cards.

I heard this is the line they used to film the Grand Continental from Undersiege 2 Dark Territory. Shame its abandoned now.
