While it is true that this "Snow Bird" scheme graced all Lehigh Valley C628s when delivered from Alco, these two examples are actually former Monon locomotives. The second-hand units were identified by their right-angle front handrails (where everyone else's Century units were angled inward) and the metal plate on the low nose that sealed off the mounting position for Monon's oscillating signal lights. The Monon found the C628 to be too much locomotive for their needs and traded them back to Alco for C420s. Alco reconditioned them and resold them to Lehigh Valley.
