Mr. Hawkins, I've noticed that as well...are they some variant or new version of air chime? I'm not sure if they're louder but to me they sound "scarier" or more urgent than those on older locos.

They are very loud air horns. The Nathan K5LLA 5-chime air horn was developed in 2004 for the SD70ACe and the SD70M-2, but they were designed for quietness! I waited in my truck at a crossing outside my hometown when one of these came through, and the horn made my truck act like it was havin' a freakin seizure! Man, it was SO loud!
