Since August 2023, only one of the two tubes of the Gotthard Base Tunnel has been in operation following the derailment of a freight train, which caused extensive damage to the infrastructure. For a long time, this one tube was reserved exclusively for freight traffic, while all passenger trains were rerouted via the mountain route. For a few weeks now, many passenger trains have been running southbound through the base tunnel on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, and northbound on Sunday afternoons. The IC 10881 of the IC1 line from Zurich to Lugano with double-decker "FVD" RABe 502 # 2... and RABDe 502 # 0... in multiple control, will travel through the base tunnel. Double-decker trains are excluded over the mountain route. We can see this 400 meter long train with more then 1300 seats running between Steinen and Schwyz, with Haggenstock, Klein and Gross Mythen in the background.
