Cogwheel railcar BDeh 1/2 # 1 "Liseli" of the Bergbahn Rheineck-Walzenhausen just left the 315 meter long Schutztunnel and is reaching the end of the cogwheel section in Ruderbach stop. Ruderbach was the valley station of the former funicular, which was operational from 1896 to 1958. The gauge of 1,2 meter is still the same. The building is the shed for the railcar, reached over the only switch of the railway. from here, the railcar has to run about 600 meter on the adhesion section till the stop in front of the Rheineck station, with connection to the SBB mainline. The Bergbahn Rheineck-Walzenhausen is part of the Appenzellerbahnen since 2006 and is due to change to a fully automatic, driverless system built by StadlerRail (new car and system) in 2026.
