High In The High Desert. Union Pacific Railroad 2662 (ET44AH) leads a manifest train of mixed freight around Techachapi Loop in Walong near Keene, California on Thursday, July 23, 2020. This National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark was constructed by the Southern Pacific Railroad, and became part of the UP in 1996. The name Walong comes from Southern Pacific District Roadmaster W. A. Long, after whom the siding was initially named in 1909.
