The sixth eastbound train on the Modoc Line after the SP/DRGW merger descends Viewland Hill near Wendel, California. Mothballed between Wendel and Alturas, California in January 1987, the Modoc was reopened to through traffic on merger day. After the Modoc was put back in service, the first seven eastbound trains on the route had solid sets of Rio Grande power. These curves display the narrow gauge heritage of the Modoc between Wendel and Alturas.
