Southern Pacific SD9 No. 5399 sits in the morning sun at Lebanon, Oregon, on September 26, 2016. The 1955 EMD product was originally numbered No. 5399, which was later rebuilt by SP into SD9E No. 4364. It was bought by locomotive dealer George Lavacot in 1992, who eventually restored and repainted it into SP’s black widow paint scheme, with added silver trucks, and renumbered the classy locomotive once again into its original road number. The SD9 is currently leased to the Albany & Eastern Railroad. Behind No. 5399 is AERC GE B23-7 No. 4201, which is former Conrail No. 1904, a well-traveled locomotive that also spent time on Metro-North, BNSF, Ohio Central and Port of Tillamook Bay Railroad. The RFRX markings are Rick Franklin Corporation (owners of AERC), but the locomotive now has small AERC reporting marks below the road number on the cab sides. I believe this locomotive is no longer with AERC.
