New platforms at Vincent Grade……over the last year Metrolink has brought several upgrades to their trackage and facilities at Vincent Grade/Acton, the summit of the former Southern Pacific 'Saugus Line' between Los Angeles and Palmdale. Along with a extended siding a new station platform and passenger enclosures have been constructed on the south side of the tracks, this not only gives Metrolink increased capacity but the ability to allow two 'commutes' platform space simultaneously. As crews work on the finishing touches to the new station facilities along the 'south track' (siding), ahead of its Wednesday September 28th dedication, a Los Angeles bound commute pauses right on the advertised for its brief station stop. Within moments leased BNSF AC4400 5658 will accelerate away from the mountain top station and continue its journey down into Los Angeles with several additional stops in the Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valley. A sharp eye will note above the station and to the right several old Southern Pacific 'cabs' on display at Vincent Grade Restaurant & Saloon, a fine place to stop for a cold beer and good food when traveling to the Antelope Valley.
