An Amtrak San Diegan pauses at the Oceanside, California, station and provides an opportunity to compare the differences between F40PH and F59PH diesels. GO Transit F59PH 552 and coach 235 are running on the Surf Line to persuade local politicians that a commuter rail agency would be worthwhile in southern California - and Metrolink was the result! While F40PHs and F59PHs appear similar, there are significant differences visible from this angle: Two-piece vs. three-piece windshields, a front platform with an access door in the nose and different nose shapes are the most significant. (The longer length of the F59PH - a whopping 24" - is not visible from this angle, of course.)
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
