An SD70 from Norfolk Southern leads CSX 646 through Wartrace, TN on a beautiful last day of 2014. The caboose on the left is part of History Park which tells us, among other things, that Wartrace sits on land once owned by Andrew Jackson. The town was built as a railroad camp when the original Nashville & Chattanooga line was constructed, and for many years was an important hub town on the NC&StL. A spur line to Shelbyville, TN was built shortly after the main line was completed. It branches off just behind the photographer and now operates as the Walking Horse and Eastern.
