A typical busy morning on the Fairfield Southern, as remote jobs do their work shoving iron ore pellets into the steel mill. While presently commonplace on any given morning, this scene (which is best done in summer) will disappear within a couple of years, as US Steel has announced the Fairfield Works will be converted from an integrated steel mill to an electric arc furnace by 2017. The raw materials of today which feed so many rail operations will be replaced by scrap metal soon. BS 219 is a rarity, as the railroad no longer exists, but this unit was painted into Transtar yellow before the bulk of the BS operations were sold to Watco. This is technically Fairfield Southern 219.
