Established in 1961 primarily as a tourist line after signing a leasing arrangement with the Pennsylvania Railroad. That agreement allowed operation from Flemington to Lambertville on the original Belvidere-Delaware Railroad Flemington Branch. And the first train they ran? A Baldwin built 2-8-0 steam engine purchased from Colorado's Great Western on May 16, 1965. On March 16, 1970, the railroad became an official shortline when the then tourist only operation acquired ownership and operations of the entire Flemington/Lambertville line from Penn Central. Both freight and passenger service can be found along the route on any given day.
