The class 14 diesel hydraulic locos were among the least successful designs of the early 1960s.Introduced in 1964 for light branch line freight and passenger workings, the locos were plagued with various problems, and all 56 of the class had been withdrawn by mid-1969.Fortunatley,the vast majority of them were sold off to industry, enabling preservation groups to purchase them for quite reasonable prices in later years.Here,D9521 is approaching St Marys Halt,on the Dean Forest Railway, with a Parkend to Lydney Junction working.
