About 50,000 years ago a meteorite slammed into Earth approximately 5 miles from this location in the northern Arizona desert west of Winslow. Today you can exit Interstate 40, and park your RV at the rim of the crater. Much as I would have liked to see that 500 foot deep, 2.4 mile wide crater, the temptation to catch a few trains nearby on the BNSF Seligman sub was just too great.
