How do you unload welded rail? It actually handles like wet noodles, very flexible. Candidate first rail is winched off the rack, a hole cut in the end to which a chain is threaded, and the chain is securely attached to a crosstie. Then the work train "shoves ahead" slowly, pulling the rail off the train and gently dropping it to the ballast. But before the drop, it is bolted to the next rail with conventional angle bars, pulling that one off the train, and so forth, keeping the continuity going for however many rails are to be delivered, to await the rail gang.
Photo albums dedicated to the Men, and Women that keep the Railroad running around the clock 365 days a year. From Dispatcher to Track Gangs, these are the people that make the railroad moves!
A tribute of appreciation to the workers who maintain the track, keeping our railways in shape regardless of weather and danger, and keeping them running effeciently.
