Remarks & Notes
Train 481 has come to a stop at the road crossing at the east end of Cartier yard as a couple of crew members have made there way through the units back to the 4729 which flamed up on the long slog up from Lavack. This train was heavy as usual for 481 and the fourth unit 4727 was dead out of St. Luc and heading to Winnipeg for some reason. After using the fire extinguishers in all units the 4729 was put out and the train continued on its way west after setting out both the 4729 and 4727 and about 45 cars. The crew thought 4729 was done for, but closer examination revealed that one of the fuel injector lines had come off and the fuel was spraying under the injector cover instead of into the block. As it filled up and heated up, it blew the cover off and burst into flames. In any case after being towed back to St. Luc the 4729 was back out working within a week. Power on this train was 5729, 4713, 4729, 4727 on this scorching June afternoon.
