Heavy traffic rerouted through this street during construction of one of city arterials made sewers fail, causing this interesting operation. The trams on line "X" were crossing to the other track on "californian" turnout laid directly on the pavement, stopped at 6.0 % grade, switched direction and went back again. The tram had two drivers, one at each cab, to make direction change easier at this terminus and to minimize disruption of other lines at the second temporary terminus.
