On the evening of August 4th, 2024, Steam fog rises from the hills of Palmer, Massachusetts as Amtrak P42DC #130, painted in the Phase II heritage scheme, leads eastbound Lake Shore Limited Train 448(4) past the former Boston & Albany depot, now Steaming Tender Restaurant on the CSX Berkshire Subdivision.
Once treated like a backwater with decrepit locomotives, cars and track, Massachusetts has become a star in the Amtrak constellation with electrification to Boston, service to Maine and an upgraded Connecticut Valley line.
