Remarks & Notes
The Cannonball Is Leaving. The MTA Long Island Rail Road's "Cannonball" was still numbered Train 2798 on September 2, 2011 when it was getting ready to depart the Hunterspoint Avenue Station in Long Island City, Queens, New York for the Hamptons and Montauk. This train operates in the 'summer season' (from Memorial Day to Labor Day) on Fridays and certain holidays east and returns west on Sundays. Starting in 2013, would no longer serve this station, instead originating at New York's Penn Station. In 2024, the train has 12 C3 bi-levels, but has had more in the past, and was once known for being an all parlor car train. Amongst other changes in this photo, at this time the Bombardier built R-62As in the background were the mainstay of the MTA NYCT Subway 7/Flushing Line, and have since be reassigned and replaced by Kawasaki R-188s.
