Two of Iowa Traction Railway Company's electric-powered 50-Ton Steeplecab locomotives …
IATR 54, built in 1923 by General Electric; has just arrived and the crew has pulled down it trolley pole, then boarded IATR 50, and raised its pole. IATR 50 looks essentially the same, but was built a few years earlier, in 1920, by Baldwin-Westinghouse (before it was acquired by GE).
IATR 50 was built as Northeast Oklahoma Railroad 2, later becoming Cedar Rapids and Iowa City number 40. It was passed along to the Kansas City, Kaw Valley & Western (as KVW 505) before eventually heading here, becoming Iowa Traction 51. ITR later became Iowa Traction Railway Company, and thus its current status as IATR 51.
IATR 54 was originally owned by Southern Iowa Railway.
Momentarily, IATR will depart to handle a cut of covered hoppers, and deliver them to the nearby AGP elevator.
