"R142As on the North Channel Bridge"
On the cloudy morning of March 26th, 2024, a 10-car train of Kawasaki built MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) R142A subway cars (7625-7621/7641-7645) descends from the North Channel Swing Bridge on the IND Rockaway Line at Hamilton Beach in the Queens borough of New York City. The train is returning to Pitkin Yard after a round of testing on the Rockaway Test Track at Broad Channel. NYCT is conducting tests on Wabtec's new "Metroflexx" brake control system package for Mass transit. If proven successful, the package will be installed on all R142A cars during their overhaul.
R142As belong to the "A Division", serving the numbered lines of the NYC subway system. They occasionally traverse the "B Division" or lettered lines during non-revenue movements, primarily to 207th Street Yard in Manhattan. It is exceedingly rare for these railcars to operate on this portion of the subway.
