The Water Level Route. An early morning run of MNCW 211 (New York Central Heritage/40th Anniversary) on Metro-North Train 803 meets a frosty sunrise at the Bear Mountain Bridge near Manitou, New York on Friday, December 15, 2023 as a CSX intermodal train travels on the former NYC/West Shore Railroad in the background. The New York Central, a predecessor of today's MTA Metro-North Railroad, prided itself on the views available on its Hudson River lines for both long distance passengers and commuters. Overhead, the Bear Mountain Bridge opened in 1924, and has long been a favorite landmark to include in railroad photos since the steam era.
