In 1997 and 1998, Amtrak excursion trains operated from Sacramento to Dunsmuir, California for the annual Railroad Days celebration. After detraining the passengers at Dunsmuir, the train continued north to Black Butte (junction with the Siskiyou Line) and turned on the wye there. The trains provided the very incongruous sight of Mt. Shasta and Amfleet cars. After turning on the wye, the southbound train is shown at Mott siding near Mt. Shasta City.
