Two of Iowa Traction's active roster of three Baldwin Westinghouse steeplecabs are seen in a HOT (head-on-telephoto) in the railroad's Mason City Yard, Mason City, Iowa, 9/25/23. The 50, on the right, is actually working, switching cars. The 54 is silent and would end up having the entire day off, not moving from this spot until the following morinng. These motors are 93-years old (50) and 90-years old (54). They have an 85-year-old companion out on the line, (51). How beyond incredible that they are still working in every day freight service?
I will note, much like cab leading end cab switchers, steeplecabs are not that photogenic in HOTs, but somehow with two of them together, I liked it.
