CTrail in RI. When CTrail Hartford Line service began on June 16, 2018, Connecticut DOT leased 16 MBB built coaches from MBTA to supplement their existing fleet of 33 Mafersa cars. As Shore Line East service is generally provided by M8s since 2022, the state placed the MBB cars out of service and returned them to MBTA. On their night of September 21-22, 2023, "CDOT Extra 6707" brought the cars from New Haven, Connecticut to Boston, Massachusetts, where they were cut off and left for MBTA. The engines then returned to New Haven, the only time CTrail branded equipment has ever been up the Northeast Corridor Line as far as South Station. The train is seen passing through the Amtrak/MBTA/RI DOT Providence, Rhode Island Station where it would be held to allow an Amtrak train to pass. The trip was limited to 79mph due to the speed of the MBBs and with only locomotives 50mph on the return trip.
