The Swapping High Hood Meet Up. It was an ironically odd pairing when Norfolk Southern SD40 3170 (née-Southern Railway/SOU 3170, 4/1971) was visiting the Southeastern Railway Museum (SRM/SMRX) in Duluth, Georgia on August 1, 2015 while still active on the NS roster and Georgia Railroad (GA) 1026 (GP7, EMD, 10/1950) was parked on an adjoining track. the GA railroad unit was briefly a resident of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum (TVRM) roster, but joined the SRM collection in 2006. NS 3170 was stored by NS in 2007, but in 2014 was repainted into the SOU paint scheme as part of its heritage program and started to work road trains, steam program specials and travel across the system to visit museums. It was subsequently retired and now lives at TVRM.
Selected photos of locomotives, passenger cars, and rolling stock in the Southern's livery as well as other assets once belonging to or used by the Southern.
