Lytton Fire On June 30, 2021 a fire storm ripped thru Lytton, British Columbia. The fatal fire was after days of un-relenting heat including a temp set near here of 121 degrees, the hottest ever recorded in Canada. The self proclaimed hot-spot of Canada, Lytton, was burnt to the ground only a couple structures still remain. The geologic location is conducive to to high winds which helped fan the flames to over 40mph, some say at one point the winds in the firestorm reached over 100mph. Today the forest is already recovering with a carpet of green grass, as a CN manifest climbs the heavy grade above Lyyton. The grade here on the CP side of the river reaches near 1.5% and is steepest grade eastbound CN trains encounter between Vancouver and Edmonton.
