This beautiful 4-8-4, number 1403, was built in January 1947 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Eddystone, Pennsylvania, for the Western Maryland Railroad. According to the specifications listed on the back of the builder's card, in working order the total engine and tender weight was 847,900 lbs, and it had a tractive force of 70,600 lbs. My great, great Uncle Robert F. McKee, Sr., worked as a design engineer at Baldwin. This Baldwin Locomotive Works builders photo card is from the John R. Doughty collection.
