Santa Comes Early. The MTA Metro-North Railroad Holiday Train made its final trip for the season on Tuesday, December 13, 2022. The train visits employees at their work locations at the larger yards, and managers ride so that they can drop off the holiday gift and snacks. MNCW P32AC-DMs 211 and 231 (New Haven Tribute) bracketed the traditional Office Cars. The end cars are observation cars ex-DLW from "The Phoebe Snow" while the middle car is an ex-NYC Empire Service coach. These cars serves other purposes the rest of the year, including for Geometry and Inspection Trains and in the past have been available for charters as well. The train is seen passing through CP 52 in Cold Spring, New York at just a few minutes after sunrise. In the background, the tip of Protestant Chapel rises from the campus of the United State Military Academy at West Point across the Hudson River. A recent snowfall still covers a some of the foliage.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
