The brand new Waumbek Station. Here's a northwest-facing shot of the new, three-level station complex, built by the Mt. Washington Cog Railway, adjacent to their historic Waumbek Tank. With the railroad now running winter trips to Waumbek, they needed some facilities to safely get passengers off the train, and a place for them to shelter during their layover here. At 3,800 ft. above sea level and wide open to a westerly wind, it can be unbelievably cold here at times, with wind chill values sometimes plunging well below zero. Not only do these shelters provide a nice wind-break, but they also contain heat sources, so people can keep warm. Needless to say, if you can stand the cold, the view from the 3 observation decks looking west is pretty impressive.
