There’s a lot to see in this November 19, 1976 view looking across Conrail’s yard in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Beside an excellent cross section of mid-70’s freight cars, sharp eyes will notice the top
of a Lehigh Valley SW1 moving two LV cabooses through the yard. The real find in this railroad Where’s Waldo is N&W 7902, an ex NKP Baldwin AS16 that was re-engined by EMD in 1959, receiving a GP9-style long hood as part of the process. The little information that I could find about 7902 indicates that it was scrapped in Roanoke, but this doesn’t appear to be true. It seems to have been cannibalized in Roanoke, and is probably in transport to Naporano for scrapping.
