The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern was later consolidated with the New York & Harlem into the New York Central Railroad. In 1916, anti-trust laws forced the NYC to dviest of its interest in the Nickel Plate. In 1964, the Nickel Plate would join other railroads and merge with the Norfolk & Westen, eventually becoming part of the Norfolk Southern Corp (NS) in 1982. As part of its 30th Anniversary in 2012, NS 8100 (ES44AC) was 1 of 20 engines painted into a predecessor heritage scheme. On Tuesday, March 1, 2022, it led CSX Train Q212-28 over the 1,232 foot long Wilbur Bridge across Rondout Creek in Kingston, New York. This line, known today as CSX's River Sub, was formerly consolidated as the West Shore Railroad, and was also controlled by the New York Central. The is was also the first time that an NS Heritage Unit led a train on this line in several years.
