Rolling southward down the center of Hillsboro Street with white flags flying are Southern Railway GP38AC 2851 and Norfolk Southern GP38-2 5101, possibly NS train P41, pulling a southbound train of about 20 or so cars. This is NS' VF-Line, a single-tracked branchline connecting Fuquay-Varina NC to Fayetteville NC that used to belong to the original Norfolk Southern Railway, which was acquired by the Southern Railway in 1974. In 1982, when Southern merged with Norfolk & Western, the name resurfaced as the logical name for the new railway. (Fayetteville, North Carolina – 1989).
Selected photos of locomotives, passenger cars, and rolling stock in the Southern's livery as well as other assets once belonging to or used by the Southern.
