Before Union Pacific, and probably Southern Pacific too, the wash rack at Burnham Shops cleaned countless Rio Grande locomotives and passenger cars over the years. the earliest buildings at the Burnham Shop complex and yard were built in 1874, located a couple of miles south of downtown Denver, Colorado, and were the main shop facilities for Rio Grande. In this later view on January 21, 2016, only stored UP locomotives now sit under the long out-of-service wash rack, along with a couple of locomotives on the right that are at Burnham for repairs in the Diesel House.
