Eastbound Signal to Nowhere. Hidden in brush and overgrowth for years, a US&S CPL dwarf governing the end of ABS territory on the N&W Mate Creek Branch awaits it's fate. Located half a mile up the 6.3 mile long branch, this location marked the end of circuited track from the connection at Mate Creek Jct in downtown Matewan, allowing trains to head up the branch at track speed and clear the busy Pocahontas District mainline faster. With the track on the unused coal branch salvaged by contractors earlier this year, the signals await the same fate.
