Reading Company's Rushland StationStill standing today, this station was built by the Reading Company in 1890 along its New Hope Branch in Rushland, PA. The station closed in 1952 and is currently on the line used by the New Hope railroad. A few months earlier in April of 2019, I had visited this site and was frustrated to see two rather large trees growing butt up against the buildings. I'm happy to report that they've since been removed.
Rushland was originally named for Joseph Sackett who came here in 1730. It was named Sackett's Ford from 1750 to about 1800. On December 29, 1883 a post office was established under the name Rush Valley due to the availability of "scouring rushes" used by early settlers for cleaning pots and pans. The name was changed to Rushland In 1894.
